IN THIS ISSUE
We change this BARKWORTHY reminder periodically, just to let you know we're not asleep at the meal. No mass-produced fetches allowed here! That's why we wag your tail to SAVE THIS ISSUES!!! Print them in 3-D.
When you're ready for that travel adventure, business
revelation, gift of music, techno-quandry, or evening in front of the
squak machine - you'll be glad your Golden Retriever is on your lap.
WISE ENTERPRISE: 7 Angels These aren't the ones who support you in your mythic struggle against the 7 deadly sins. They are already bone tired. These are your mortal helpers, - the ones who,in your business and work, are your champions, challengers, favor-doers - just because they want to be. If you haven't seven (or some odd handful), then perhaps its time for bifocals or binoculars. (translate: wake up to what's already been present or start looking). If you can't name them in a twinkle, write us - and we'll send you a quill, paper included. Their names may change over time...but the roles are usually played by someone, even a telephone operator. I saw my business falter, when during the blizzard of interactions, I forgot my beacons and shelters. It revived when I simply re-membered to return to these appointed godsends: spirit, focus, material support renewed. I had names their written on a salmon-colored card: no 292 GazillaHertz processor required. Just enough personal brain memory to process basic priorities and a splash of moderately undispersed attention. Don't let a hyper-communicated end of millenium overwhelm you with new connections everywhere...Cultivate the tried and true.
Speaking of godsends, the deal is: you play the same role for others,
not as a technique of course, - just because you want to.
CULTURE: The CHIEFTAINS' 1996 CD "Santiago" In keeping with the OtherWise spirit, which embraces the beautiful, the electic, the hard to categorize, we would like to introduce you to some music that bends around some unusual corners. Sometimes, our Golden Retriever needs to go sniffing in the obvious to find what isn't so. If you don't know the Chieftains, even after the past few years of well-merited Celtic and Irish cultural pummeling, then let us bone you in quietly that they have been for many decades the pre-eminent and unpretentious native musical sons of Eire. More than a wee bit before Riverdance, when the Emerald Isle became The Place to Dance In. This CD is a surprising, evocative blend of Irish & Galician (Spanish Celtic) , medieval, village traditional, and contemporary. Beautifully packaged, too. For years, I thought my 4 Chieftans CD's were enough... Add this one. Just like you and us, good souls evolve into new forms. We all need to be re-visited for the good we've held onto and how we've changed. Get this one and other Golden Retriever fetches at the site by clicking

TECHNO-Babble: August is no time to be babbling about bits and bites, says our Golden Retriever. Better chew on the stars splashed across a new moon sky and be instructed in matters of Infinity. TRAVEL: Quebec: Europe in the neighborhood... From WiseMember & Master Mensch Jay Perry The Canadian Province of Quebec is less than one hour from New York City by plane, and yet it seems more like Europe than North America. Of course, the road signs are in French and distances are measured in kilometers, but even more than that, there is a sensibility that seems European. The old cities of Montreal and Quebec are beautifully maintained and historic sites are lovingly preserved. The bread is tastier and the latte is served in cups that look more like bowls. Everyone seems to have a great sense of fashion and the street buskers are more like Cirque de Soleil than Bob Dylan. The old walled city of Quebec is small and the charming streets invite you to walk for hours without ever being very far from your hotel. Although the imposing Hotel Frontenac is "the" place to stay, there are many fine "manoirs" that are less expensive and delightful. One of the finest meals I've ever had was at Quebec city's Cafe de la Paix.* (*Exec. WiseFool note: - not to be confused with Gurdjieff's cafe-study in Paris)
The Laurentain Mountains, about 1 1/2 hours north of Montreal, are not the
Rockies nor the Alps, yet they have beautiful lakes, skiing, golf, and best
of
all "Husky Park", where you can mush a pack of huskies that love to pull
sleds in
the winter and carts in the summer.
("Mush" is just English listening for the earlier French dog sled drivers
who
would yell at their dogs to "Marche!")
WISDOM: CRAZY OR OTHERWISE So, "What is Enlightenment"? We won't be answering that question in its entirety in this issue, but we can direct you to the bi-annual journal by that name, inspired by Andrew Cohen. His life is dedicated to living the answer to that question, uncompromisingly, whether you like him or not. In the evolution game, there are many camps... One cluster of camps says that there are camps - and that is where you can make better thoughts, relationships, and life experiences. Camp is good. A smaller cluster says, very good - but You are none of those things, and no need to camp out at the base of the Unspeakable. Andrew Cohen speaks the last message. In the journal, noted gurus, adepts, and other strong winds in the spiritual world are interviewed in depth in an ongoing exploration of what is the real yahoo. You'll find provocative dialogues, touchy subjects (gurus and sex), and punchy articles (will the real Deepak stand up). All-in-all, a well-presented open forum exploring the palette of seemingly contradictory paths to enlightenment.
